Former first lady Laura Bush is a massive nerd and her twin daughters are actually pretty hilarious, the crowd at the CARE National Conference learned Wednesday night. Jenna and Barbara Bush lit up the stage with a Comedy Central-worthy roast, ahead of their mother's keynote address at the humanitarian organization's big Washington event.
"I don't know how many of you have a mother who is also a librarian, but sometimes, you know, it seems the excitement just never would stop," Jenna, said sarcastically, drawing hearty laughs from the crowd of around 1,200.
"In our twenties, our mother's idea of a really good time was naming our cat 'Dewey' after the Dewey Decimal system," which is system to classify library books, she continued.
The twins--who had the Secret Service names "Turquoise" and "Twinkle"--then explained how they couldn't wait to "tear into" their mother's autobiography Spoken From the Heart, to discover "the wild secret life that we just knew our mother had been hiding."
But alas, they only learned that as a girl, their mother "harbored a deep and abiding passion, for all things, school supplies."
Things then took at heartfelt turn with Barbara beginning to tear-up moments before her mother took to the stage to discuss the work CARE has done to provide health and education services to women in impoverished countries.
"Our mother doesn't make noise, she doesn't make a fuss. She just makes a difference for our family, to our country and to countless people all over the world," she said.
